六安地處安徽、河南、湖北三省交界處。南依大別山，北靠淮河，全市總面積1.8萬平方公里，總?cè)丝?00萬，在全省17個(gè)市中面積第一，人口第二。全市現(xiàn)轄金安、裕安兩區(qū)，壽縣、舒城、霍山、金寨、霍邱五縣，以及葉集改革發(fā)展試驗(yàn)區(qū)和六安經(jīng)濟(jì)技術(shù)開發(fā)區(qū)。六安歷史悠久。四千年前，這里是上古四圣之一皋陶的封地，故六安又稱皋城。公元前121年，漢武帝取“六地平安”之意，置六安國(guó)，六安之名沿襲至今。六安區(qū)位顯要，交通便捷。西安—南京鐵路、上�！�武漢—成都快速鐵路、合肥至九江鐵路、阜陽—六安鐵路穿境而過，上�！�西安、合肥—武漢、濟(jì)南—廣州、合肥—阜陽、合肥—安慶高速公路以及312國(guó)道、206國(guó)道、105國(guó)道縱橫全市，正在興建的新橋國(guó)際機(jī)場(chǎng)到六安僅40公里。2006年，六安被交通部列入國(guó)家公路運(yùn)輸樞紐布局規(guī)劃。在鐵路和高速公路建成后，到上海3個(gè)半小時(shí)，到南京、武漢1個(gè)半小時(shí)，到合肥和新橋國(guó)際機(jī)場(chǎng)半小時(shí)左右。中心城市建設(shè)日新月異，一個(gè)60平方公里、60萬人口，功能齊全，環(huán)境優(yōu)美的中心城市框架已基本形成，150平方公里、140萬人口的遠(yuǎn)景規(guī)劃正在編制。

    六安生態(tài)優(yōu)良，環(huán)境優(yōu)美。是全省六大旅游區(qū)之一。南部為高山峻嶺所盤踞，千峰競(jìng)險(xiǎn)，萬嶺爭(zhēng)秀；中部為低緩的丘陵所環(huán)列，滿坡青翠，豐盈流金；北部為淮河平原的一部分，綠蕪平疇，畫里人家。全市已建成240萬畝國(guó)家級(jí)和省級(jí)自然保護(hù)區(qū)，建成省級(jí)以上森林公園近15萬畝，竹海茂林、綠韻醉人。六安市為安徽省生態(tài)建設(shè)示范市，境內(nèi)的金寨縣、舒城縣是國(guó)家級(jí)生態(tài)示范區(qū)，霍山縣是國(guó)家級(jí)生態(tài)示范試點(diǎn)縣。

Lu’an city lies on the border of Anhui, Hunan and Hubei provinces, and is located between the northern foot of Dabie Mountain and southern Huaihe River, with a total area of 18 thousand square km and a total population of more than 7 million. The land area ranks first, and the population ranks second in 17 cities of Anhui province. At present, there''re two districts, five counties and two provincial development zones under its jurisdiction. They''re Jin''an district, Yu''an district, Shouxian county, Shucheng county, Huoshan county, Jinzhai county, Huoqiu county, Lu''an Economic and technological development zone and Yeji reform pilot development zone.

Lu''an is extensive and abundant in natural resources with cultivable land area 440 thousand hectares, water area 67 thousand hectares, mountain area 730 thousand hectares. It is an important commodity grain production base in China, producing over 110 kinds of agricultural and sideline products. Many of its agriculture and forest products are at top of list in our province. The products are oil corps, stem-fiber crops, teas, cocoons, Chinese chestnuts, poultries, eiderdowns, aquatic products, woods, etc. It holds famous name of ”realm of white goose”, ”treasure house of tea and herbs”, ”capital of silks”, ”land of hydroelectric power”, ”paradise of tourist”.

Location is superior and traffic is convenience here. Xi’an-Nanjing, Shanghai-Wuhan-Chengdu express railroad, and Hefei-Jiujiang, Fuyang-Lu’an railway traverses the territory. Shanghai-Xi’an, Hefei-Wuhan, Ji’nan-Guangzhou, Hefei-Fuyang, Hefei-Anqing express high ways and national highways 312,206 and 105 meet here and go through the region. Xinqiao international airport being built is only 40 kilometers away. Lu’an city constructions are changing with each passing day. A fully functional, 60-square-kilometre urban frame with 600 thousand populations and elegant environment is taking shape. The prospects of the urban area having 150 square kilometers and 1.4 million populations are planned.

since the city was promoted to the status of a provincially-administered municipality in 2000, Lu’an city has witnessed a booming economy, and the city has taken on a completely new look. Especially in the latest five years, the mean annual economic growth has reached 13.2 percent, and lots of significant economic indexes stand in the front rank in Anhui province such as gross regional product, industrial added value, fiscal revenues, overall retail sales of social consumption products, income of urban and rural residents.
